Exploration for unconformity-related uranium deposits has been performed within the subject ELs by Pancontinental Mining on behalf of joint venture partners since 1979. The initial exploration concept was to look for economic deposits occurring at or near to the unconformity between the Middle and Lower Proterozoic sequences, such as are found in the Pine Creek area of the Northern Territory, and in Canada's Athabasca region. A 15,000 line km airborne magnetic and radiometric survey was flown across the joint venture's tenement package in June-July 1979 by Geoex (east-west lines at 250 m line spacing and 115 m flight altitude). This geophysical surveying and subsequent ground follow-up mapping and prospecting on radiometric anomalies have failed to locate any significant mineralisation. The surficial and near-surface bedrock geology of the ELs has been compiled and thoroughly evaluated. The absence of Middle Proterozoic Blue Range Beds sandstone units within the relinquished areas is thought to severely limit the potential for locating economic uranium mineralisation.
