An extensive exploration programme for lead-zinc mineralisation of Mississippi Valley style, targeting a horizon lying within Lower Cambrian carbonate metasedimentary units, was undertaken over an area located 35 km north of Hawker. Initial helicopter-supported reconnaissance geological mapping found that no Lower Cambrian carbonates crop out in the currently relinquished portion of the EL. A stream sediment base metal geochemical sampling programme was carried out in the Mern Merna Syncline area. The diamond potential of the area was also tested by a stream gravel heavy mineral sampling programme. Results were negative for kimberlitic indicators.
