An area 100 km north of Kingoonya which exhibits a strong regional gravity high and other, intersecting pronounced crustal geophysical features was acquired to search for an Olympic Dam type of base/precious metals deposit. Semi-detailed and detailed ground magnetic and gravity surveys were performed to delineate targets, which were subsequently drilled with 10 percussion holes totalling 570 m, and sampled for geochemical and petrological analyses. The drilled near-coincident gravity and magnetic anomalies were adequately explained, and are of no direct economic importance. Briefly, the drilling revealed that Lower Proterozoic haematitic banded iron formations, schists and gneisses form a shallowly subcropping local palaeo-high beneath Cainozoic cover, which is bounded on both the north and south, possibly by faulting, by Carpentarian age greenschist facies metasediments and basic metavolcanics. The BIFs contain up to 760 ppm Zn and the basement schists up to 480 ppm Cu. The Carpentarian metasediments are locally pyritic and chloritic, and contain up to 160 ppm Pb and 430 ppm Zn.
