Stratiform base metal sulphide deposits and sedimentary uranium accumulations were targeted in the Stuart Creek area, which straddles the Torrens Fault on the eastern margin of the Stuart Shelf. Two airborne magnetic and radiometric surveys totalling 2400 line km were carried out, comprising flight traverses on 400 m x 1 km grids at 90 m elevation, to try to detect possible shallow magnetite or pyrrhotite mineralisation associated with any Roxby Downs type metalliferous orebody. Follow-up ground reconnaissance resulted in the discovery of secondary uranium minerals in Recent alluvium at Charlie Swamp, prompting a programme of power auger drilling (64 holes to 60 m max. depth, but averaging 20 m, for a total of 370 m) on a 50 m x 400 m grid laid out over the prospect. Results of this drilling were not encouraging for uranium prospectivity, nor were the results of other uranium scout drilling (6 holes for 35 m total) at Yarra Wurta and Census Dam.
