The south-eastern Lake Frome Embayment in the vicinity of Quinyambie Station was explored for Upper and Lower Tertiary 'blanket' or 'roll front' type sedimentary uranium, via the drilling of 75 open vertical rotary mud holes with a total penetration of 7295 m. All of the holes were geophysically wireline logged with gamma ray, SP and resistivity tools and, latterly in 1980, also with a neutron tool to provide better resolution of lithology. The widespread, permeable and prospective Palaeocene - Eocene fluvial sands of the Eyre Formation were found to contain minor uranium mineraliSation. The best intersection was 180 ppm U3O8 over 2 metres in drillhole LC56.
