Targets of ongoing subsurface investigations in the plains area north-west of Lake Frome, now being conducted under a new joint venture, were respectively to delineate further sedimentary uranium occurrences within buried Middle and Late Tertiary sediments, near previously identified sub-economic deposits, and to look for possible base metals associated with geophysical anomalies in underlying Precambrian basement rocks. Work has comprised gravity and ground magnetic surveys, and 28 rotary drillholes totalling 6560 m, plus one diamond drillhole as an extension of a separate rotary precollared hole. Rotary drillholes R80/1 through R80/28 at the Paralana A and B prospects intersected additional broadly anomalous zones of radioactivity, but these were considered to represent probably isolated and small, and therefore uneconomic ore concentrations, so chemical analysis of cuttings was considered unwarranted. All of the holes ended in Tertiary or Cretaceous sediments. Two mineral claims were pegged over the known sub-economic uranium deposits near Paralana Creek (at which the 'A' deposit is inferred to contain 1000 tonnes of U3O8 equivalent at an estimated average grade of 0.2%), and applications were made to convert these to retention leases at a later date. Diamond drillhole SPH 1 was drilled to 627 m total depth during April-May 1981 as an extension from 270 m depth of rotary mud - drilled hole R80/M1, in the Hamilton Creek area, to test a gravity/magnetic anomaly with potential for Olympic Dam type [IOCG] mineralisation. Below 414 m depth this hole penetrated 213 m of an hornfelsic gneiss, probably part of the Radium Creek Metamorphics, which contained generally anomalous zinc (> 1000 ppm Zn) in its upper part, and locally anomalous copper (to 400 ppm Cu) as chalcopyrite.
