The subject report describes prospecting follow-up to a March 1972 discovery of anomalous radiation associated with playa salt lakes in the BARTON and TALLARINGA mapsheet areas. Preliminary assay of the lake surficial sediments had indicated the presence of clays with a low uranium content. Later that month 23 further lake sediment samples were collected by hand augering to determine the uranium concentration in the shallow subsurface. Auger hole lithologs and assay results for these samples are presented, but with no interpretive comment. Some separately taken samples of lignitic material were also analysed for bulk coal quality parameters.
