The primary exploration target in an area located about 20 km south of Olary is the stratigraphic contact between the Late Proterozoic Tapley Hill Formation and the Tarcowie Siltstone, selected for its potential to host stratabound, Telfer - type gold. Work completed within the now relinquished area by Utah has included geological mapping, surface geochemical sampling and rock chip sample petrological studies, RAB bedrock drilling (3217 vertical holes of average depth 2.5 m) and shallow auger drilling (218 holes of average depth 3.5 m) along traverses straddling the contact, and deeper inclined diamond drilling of prospective stratigraphic sequences. Diamond drillhole CD001 (total depth 179.5 m) was drilled during May 1984 adjacent to the Copperlinka mine to intersect the Pepuarta Tillite / Grampus Quartzite contact and an associated (?stratabound) brecciated quartz - goethite - haematite vein. Instead, lode material was intersected over two depth intervals located well within the Pepuarta Tillite, that are associated with zones of brecciation and shearing, and contain extensive calcite veining and very minor pyrite and pyrrhotite. No gold was detected. Diamond drillhole CD005 (total depth 159.2 m) drilled during August 1984 at Two Mile Dam encountered sandstones. Very fine pyrite disseminations are present from 13 m to 45 m depth.
