In a search for possible diamondiferous kimberlite in an area situated 110 km north-west of Woomera, an airborne magnetic and radiometric survey was flown in July 1984 across the entire licence. 4 of 10 magnetic anomalies were selected as low priority kimberlite targets. The locations of 2 anomalies were found to be inaccessible for drilling, while 5 rotary airblast drillholes (totalling 94 m) put down over the remaining 2 were terminated in dry sand or sticky clay without identifying the magnetic source. Ground follow up of the Lake Hanson magnetic anomaly, seeking confirmation of geophysical vectors for possible Olympic Dam style mineralisation, showed only a weak gravity anomaly coincident with a deep magnetic source, and thus did not warrant testing.
