TRONA EXPLORATION: Of the 9 rotary/diamond holes drilled, only the first, Meramangye 1, intersected a unit equivalent to the Observatory Hill Beds, which was the target horizon for trona. Drillholes Manya nos 2-6 and Marla 7 intersected Cambrian red beds, sandstones and carbonates, which are all regarded as units underlying the Observatory Hill Beds. Mount Willoughby 2 terminated at 500 m in Permian Boorthanna Formation, and Nicholson 2 drilled an Adelaidean sequence of dominantly fluvio-glacial sediments interpreted as units within the Umberatana Group. BASE METAL EXPLORATION: Routine geochemical analyses for Cu, Pb and Zn have been undertaken on samples of all units interpreted as Cambrian in age, a process that has also included the re-logging and analysis of existing drillhole samples, to assist with stratigraphic correlation and to assess the potential for Mississippi Valley type Pb - Zn development within the carbonate units. Sampling was also undertaken on seismic upholes drilled as part of the concurrent petroleum tenement exploration. Detailed ground geophysical surveys (gravity and magnetics) were undertaken over prominent aeromagnetic anomalies at Cadney Park, Welbourn Hill and Middle Bore. Of these, only the Middle Bore anomaly was considered to warrant further evaluation, as both other anomalies appear to be related to deep-seated intrusive bodies (> 1500 m depth). COAL EXPLORATION: 14 rotary drillholes totalling 3741 m were completed (including 1 water bore) on the margins of the Arckaringa Basin to look for coal, which was intersected in 7 of the holes. However, data from several of the holes remain confidential as these holes lie within a retained area of EL 1069.
