153 rotary mud open holes (total 19,689 m) and 11 cored holes (total 1384 m) have been drilled during the reporting period to evaluate the Goulds Dam uranium deposit and to further explore the region to its north and south for sedimentary uranium occurrences. An estimated 3700 tonnes of contained U3O8 have been calculated to occur in the Billeroo Palaeochannel, north of the Goulds Dam prospect (but only as dispersed, generally low grade ore, with patchy higher grades), within the 0.12 GT contour area ('grade x thickness' product, the parameter used for defining ore that can be mined by in situ leaching), where the contour limit is equivalent to an ore thickness/grade cut-off of 3 metres of 0.04% eU3O8. By comparison, the average ore grade across the Goulds Dam deposit is 0.122% U3O8 over a mean thickness of 1.27 metres. Uranium mineralisation is associated with fine-grained, generally pyritic silt and clay facies within the Lower Sand Member of the Early Tertiary Eyre Formation, and has lately been assessed by laboratory and field tests as being not amenable to in situ leaching. The potential for locating mineralised zones more encouraging than Goulds Dam (i.e. with higher grades and thicker permeable host sediments) is now regarded as very low. Nevertheless, the latest drilling has shown that there is a limited potential for finding very narrow, sinuous, high grade ore concentrations in coarse permeable sands along the Billeroo Palaeochannel redox zone north of Goulds Dam. An exploratory vertical rotary mud precollared diamond drillhole (BWM1a-1) programmed to reach 500 m total depth was recently commenced by CSR on a coincident gravity/magnetic anomaly in the north-east of EL 722, to investigate the Precambrian basement for possible primary uranium and base metal mineralisation occurrences of the Roxby Downs [Olympic Dam] type.
