77 rotary / diamond holes drilled by Pacminex (total 9385 m, including 196 m cored) plus another 53 holes drilled within SML 544 by joint venturer Esso (total 7029 m) indicate that a highly prospective radioactive mineralised zone occurs within fluvial argillaceous sands deposited in the Tertiary Billeroo West Palaeochannel, where extremely fine grained uraninite occurs as thin discontinuous beds. However, no large scale geochemical redox front type accumulations are indicated. Detailed EM, gravity, ground magnetic, seismic, aerial magnetic and aerial radiometric surveys were conducted in addition to the drilling programmes to try to establish the positions of the palaeochannel axes in the mineralized Billeroo West area. This exploration work led to the delineation of Goulds Dam uranium prospect.
