A single dodecahedral 0.375 mm x 0.3 mm microdiamond and several different kimberlitic indicator minerals were recovered during regional stream sediment and gravel sampling of an area surrounding and extending south-west of Hawker. Follow-up geological mapping, ground magnetic surveys and gravel sampling of the Calabrinda and Partacoona indicator anomalies were then undertaken, and numerous picroilmenite plus pyrope and zircon grains were recovered from two sets of samples taken on Calabrinda Creek and on Radford Creek, that respectively define likely kimberlite source areas of only 1 and 1.5 square km extent. Because both of these areas are largely covered by well-outcropping Cambrian limestone, the probability of any significantly large younger-emplaced kimberlite pipes occurring in them is low, and it is inferred that the sources of these heavy minerals are probably just some narrow dykes. Elsewhere in the licence, the lack of microdiamonds and the general unrepeatability of minor indicator mineral results may indicate that the majority of samples taken are reflecting a secondary weathering source such as Tertiary high-level gravels, Pleistocene gravels, or Quaternary alluvium in flood plain and low angle slope deposits.
