Within the retained portion of EL 598, exploration for possible Tertiary alluvial diamonds by conducting gravel sampling in the Koolunga area successfully located kimberlite indicator minerals, which are thought to have been derived from an area known to contain kimberlitic rocks. An aeromagnetic survey and follow-up ground magnetic surveys, plus shallow percussion drilling (1 hole to 16 m) of one of five magnetic anomalies, failed to disclose the presence of either a kimberlite intrusion or notable bedrock base metal mineralisation.
