As part of a regional exploration programme run by Utah Development, that is targeting possible economic epithermal/hydrothermal base and precious metal mineralisation within the Gawler Ranges, reconnaissance rock and stream sediment sampling of younger Gawler Range Volcanics units (765 samples and 34 samples respectively), carried out along 5 km spaced traverses in the Moonaree area, disclosed no significant contents of copper, lead, nickel or arsenic. In a separate search for diamonds performed by joint venturer BHP, stream gravel sampling (29 x 20 kg bulk samples) and heavy mineral separation for detecting kimberlite indicator minerals gave negative results.
