Base metal exploration carried out 70 km west and south-west of Marree, to investigate the potential for Olympic Dam - type mineralisation in concealed pre-Adelaidean rocks, has included geochemical rock chip and water sampling, an aerial radiometric survey, a semi-detailed gravity survey, and geological mapping. Although gravity modelling and geological investigations of the Bopeechee gravity anomaly suggest that the local geological setting is totally dissimilar to that of Olympic Dam, subsequent analyses of drill cuttings from some newly drilled nearby water supply bores have revealed elevated base metal, trace element and rare earth values, so a deep drillhole is now proposed to test the anomaly. The surrounding northern Willouran Ranges area is also regarded as having a significant potential for hosting economic stratiform copper - zinc deposits in the early Adelaidean Callanna Beds.
