As part of a regional search for diamondiferous kimberlite, stream sediment sampling of ?54 sites in the Wharton Hill area failed to reveal any kimberlite indicator minerals. However, heavy mineral concentrates from samples taken at four sites in the south of the licence area contained traces of the cerium-aluminium hydroxylphosphate rare earth mineral florencite (validated by re-sampling), while another sample (BH52) contained cassiterite . Surface prospecting of the area, which included inspecting the previously reported Wharton Hill manganese occurrence, has downgraded its apparent base metal potential.
