The viability was investigated of producing salt from irrigation area runoff water captured by dryland salinity control drainage basins, that is pumped into the E&WS Department's Noora North Evaporation Basin, a large, ~42 square km natural topographic depression storage facility located ~26 km east-northeast of Loxton which is used intermittently to also assist with controlling the salinity of the Murray River. However, the insufficient quantity of saline water put into the target basin at the time of the licensee's desktop study, and a lack of available temporal data on water salinity trends, volumes of water transfer, and local evaporation and rainfall, hampered making a rapid meaningful assessment of the project feasibility.
