The search for stratiform / stratabound base metals of the Broken Hill / Aggeneys type was extended from Warramboo to the McLachlan area because of similar magnetic features. 11 RAB holes (total 664 m) drilled over magnetic and geochemical anomalies penetrated magnetite-rich quartzofeldspathic gneisses having low base metal assays, which downgraded the area's prospectivity. An extensive programme of geochemical sampling, conducted on all of the stored cores and cuttings from SADME diamond and percussion boreholes previously drilled at Warramboo (868 samples), gave only occasional spot high values which remain inexplicable. The general tenor of base metal mineralisation in basement in this area appears to be of very low order.
