Exploration for possible sedimentary uranium accumulations in Tertiary and Middle Proterozoic cover strata north of Tarcoola included air photo interpretation, 3160 line km of aerial magnetic and radiometric surveys, a 460 station regional helicopter-assisted gravity survey, and detailed surface gravity and radiometric surveys of selected geophysical anomalies. Drilling comprised 67 rotary mud holes (total 5841 m, including 40 m cored) and 8 RAB/percussion holes (total 804 m). Some minor uranium mineralization was intersected in lateral oxidation fronts of braided Eocene palaeochannel sands. Base and precious metal potential in altered Lower Proterozoic volcanic and metasedimentary bedrock samples, the latter which include graphitic schists plus karstic and dolomitic calc-silicate rocks, appears promising due to the influence of nearby major fault structures, but assayed samples returned only background metal values.
