In a search for possible buried economic Olympic Dam style base metal mineralisation across the area situated between Killawarra and Kalkaroo stations, the licensee carried out prospect gridding, 1:10,000 scale geological mapping, rock chip sampling, and grid-based gravity and ground magnetic surveys over magnetic anomalies that were identified in three localities following the acquisition of new aeromagnetic data in a survey flown by Geoex over the western third of the subject licence (while the remainder of the survey was flown on the adjacent EL 971). Rotary percussion drilling of 5 holes (total penetration 432 m) designed to test coincident 4000 nT magnetic and 4 mGal gravity anomalies at Lignum Dam prospect, which had a source body modelled to occur within 100 m of the surface, encountered two unmineralized gabbro sills and some probably contact metamorphosed (and potash-metasomatised) rocks. No significant base metal anomalism was detected in the drill cuttings, only some sporadic elevated copper and lead values. No significant geochemical or petrological evidence of mineralisation was seen at either the Spring Hill or Johnny Hill prospects, although complex semi-coincident magnetic and gravity anomalies exist there. An unusual occurrence of gravity lows at Johnny Hill associated with intense (to 2500 nT), discrete magnetic highs remains unexplained, but does not fit the exploration model being followed. Due to the perceived downgrading of the exploration potential of the tenement, it was not renewed at the expiry of its first year.
