Exploration for phosphates included a literature review of the Cainozoic history of the South-East, shallow auger drilling of 68 holes, averaging 3.5 metres, and geochemical sampling (soil, groundwater, surface waters and seawater). Results show that higher phosphorus values are concentrated in areas of basaltic volcanic activity and that the Millicent - Mount Gambier district area is potential phosphate province.
