Exploration for trona and base metals was centred on the Marla region. Work included regional gravity and magnetic studies, acquisition of airborne magnetic and multi-channel radiometric data, with follow-up ground magnetic and gravity surveys, Landsat image interpretation, limited field mapping, and extensive drilling (11 rotary / diamond holes: total 6347 m). Drilling intersections of the prospective Early Cambrian Observatory Hill Beds have outlined an extensive palaeo - playa lake system, but massive bedded alkali evaporites are generally absent. A copper-lead-zinc anomalous horizon was defined in the upper part of the Observatory Hill Beds. Aeromagnetic anomalies with perceived base metal potential were defined, but were not followed up.
