Exploration for possible Broken Hill type mineralisation formed within the Bimba Formation, in an area located 70 kilometres north-west of Olary, has comprised the acquisition of ground magnetic, EM, IP and Sirotem surveys, plus the drilling of 43 RC holes (total penetration 3600 m) and one diamond hole (to 262.2 m). At Birthday Dam, one RC bottomhole core which was cut in pelitic metasediments yielded a maximum core sample metal assay value of 2250 ppm Zn, and elevated base metal values were also recorded in sampling the diamond hole core cut from nearby pelitic metasediments over the depth interval 60-150 m. However, the inferred base metal potential here was downgraded by the results of follow-up RC drilling. Latterly, exploration for possible epithermal Cu-Au mineralisation at the Waltherco Hut grid only returned low level geochemical anomalism, again predominantly in zinc, which here appears to have a relationship with magnetite content of the granitic rocks.
