An area of approximately 10 square miles covering the River Torrens gorge in the vicinity of Paracombe was leased to explore for possible economic uranium and copper-lead-zinc deposits. Oxidised copper mineral stains on outcrops, and traces of copper sulphides in subsurface Precambrian metamorphic bedrock, which were previously recorded during Government mapping of excavations accompanying construction of the Kangaroo Creek Dam, have been further investigated by a private consultant's geophysical and geochemical prospecting on accessible Crown land to the west of the gorge. No results of note were obtained, and the SML was surrendered.
