Exploration for possible commercial grade celestite and for filler type carbonate material deposited in coastal lakes, undertaken in an area of the southern Coorong extending for 7-30 km north of Kingston, entailed the collection and analysis of lakebed sediment samples comprising nine push-tube samples (total penetration 10.2 m) and one bulk sample. The carbonate was found to be thinly bedded, of low brightness, high in NaCl and low in strontium.
