Lead-zinc exploration undertaken in the vicinity of Mount Messenger, and which also covered an area extending from 5 km to 50 km south-eastwards of Kimba, comprised the acquisition during November 1993 of a 4386.5 line km airborne magnetic / radiometric survey, followed by geophysical data interpretation, rock chip sampling, geological mapping, petrology studies, ground magnetic surveying, and completion of a 6.5 km long single traverse of aircore bedrock drilling near Heggarton (50 shallow holes, total 642 m), seeking buried mineralisation of Menninnie Dam type or sedex style that might possibly exist in Early Proterozoic carbonate and ironstone metasedimentary lithologies. Bedrock base metal anomalism was shown to be weak and patchy, but discrete pegmatite - related tin anomalies (to 300 ppm Sn) and one copper anomaly (3150 ppm Cu) have yet to be fully evaluated. No outcropping evidence of significant mineralisation associated with either structural or stratigraphic positions could be seen within the areas mapped.
