Base metal and gold exploration undertaken over a lengthy period since 1980 in the Yudnamutana Hill area, 20 km north-west of Arkaroola, has comprised detailed geological mapping of major basement and cover stratigraphic units and known mineral deposits, plus localised stream sediment, soil and rock chip sampling and regional BLEG sampling, limited percussion drilling during January 1983 (7 holes, total 950 m), and the acquisition of fixed-wing and helicopter-supported airborne magnetic / radiometric surveys. Low-level copper and gold anomalism (maximum 5 g/t Au and 15.4% Cu from 90-91 m in Utah YD001) was reported from exhaustive rock chip and drillhole sample assaying, that included new geochemical data obtained from a comprehensive resampling project done by Marathon Petroleum Australia on earlier diamond drillhole cores which are stored at the SADME Core Library. BLEG sampling returned low-order assay values from the vicinity of the Black Queen mine, and 0.37 g/t Au from the Blue mine area. Anomalous radioactivity readings were recorded during a ground scintillometer survey of the Echidna uranium prospect.
