Exploration for Olympic Dam-style mineralisation, undertaken over an area centred ~15 km south-east of Arcoona Homestead on the Stuart Shelf, which includes WMC's formerly partly tested Emmie Bluff prospect, has comprised the acquisition of ground gravity, ground magnetic, seismic refraction and CSAMT surveys, plus RC drilling (71 holes, total 12353 m) and diamond drilling (23 holes, total 8004 m). Low grade Cu/Au values were detected over an extensive area in haematite/magnetite-rich shales and fractured porphyritic rhyolite beneath Pandurra Formation and foliated granite. A typical intersection made in hole DDH SAE6 returned 15 m @ 1.23% Cu from 937 m, and 2 m @ 0.54 g/t Au from 1024 m, with low U and REE and generally high Ba. Seventeen of the diamond holes were put in across just a 3 km x 3 km area at Emmie Bluff between 1989 and 1995. Later targeting at the Emmie Bluff prospect of upward extensions of mineralisation into the overlying Tapley Hill Formation returned sub-economic Cu/Ag/Co values from low grade fault-controlled deposits, with a best intersection made in hole DDH SAE20 of 3 m from 403.7 m @ 3.48% Cu, 0.21% Co and 33 g/t Ag, including 1 m of 0.92% Zn. Potential exists for extensions to mineralisation along strike to the NW and SE, adjacent to the controlling fault.
