In an area located immediately south of Kimba, continued exploration of strongly kaolinised metasediments and igneous rocks for deposits of kaolin that could possibly be suitable as paper fillers and coaters has comprised drilling, costeaning, geological reconnaissance, limited geophysical work, and laboratory tests. The results of this work indicate that although the reserves of kaolin are considerable, their quality as a raw material is insufficient. The fine clay fraction (-2 micron) has potential as a paper coater after treatment, provided that its viscosity can be improved. The clay's ceramic properties are good, but here the local demand is insufficient. Evaluation of the separated coarser size fraction clastic by-products from the clay samples indicated that these had no potential for use as glass sand or as a source of heavy minerals.
