This report reviews exploration work done from 1965 through 1993 by North Flinders Mines and four joint venturers on the Northern Flinders Ranges Gunsight Project. The enormous number of reports and interpretive maps generated are listed as information sources. The complex geology of the area hosts a large number of Cu, U, REE and Au prospects, as depicted on accompanying mine location figures. There have been two predominant exploration models used in the area: (1) the Zambian Copper Belt Stratabound Copper Deposit Model was used for exploration from 1965 to 1988; (2) the Carlin, Nevada, Gold Deposit Model was first recognised in 1988. The Zambian Copper Belt model is now deemed inapplicable for reasons outlined in this report. A large number of features of the area, listed in the text, indicate that a Carlin Gold Deposit model is a likely target. The type orebody in Nevada comprises 18 million tonnes of an average of 8.7 g/t of gold, 90% with a grainsize less than 0.2 microns. This fine grainsize makes it difficult to recognise and to assay, as discussed in the report. The area of Lively's Find, and the Daly / Sir Dominic Au-Ba bearing cross faults, are two areas of significantly anomalous gold values, where further exploration is recommended as outlined.
