A computerised lineament analysis of Landsat digital image data covering the northern portion of the Flinders Ranges has shown a strong correlation between the known mineralisation and fracture structuring peripheral to granites, suggesting that mineralisation in the district would be of a hydrothermal origin rather than associated with a stratigraphic succession. Thus deposits would be expected to be of a high-grade, low-tonnage type. Detailed analysis of the lineaments and lineament density contours revealed 41 possible anomalies that were submitted for geological appraisal, of which 13 have been selected as potential gold, uranium or base metal targets worthy of further investigation. These have been ranked in order of priority into four levels of interest, based on the degree of coincidence of primary lineaments and the apparent intensity of tensional shear fissuring.
