This report re-evaluates the assay data obtained from the 1979 stream sediment geochemistry programme carried out for Marathon Petroleum by N.J. Marshall and Associates within the Gunsight Project areas, and recommends follow-up work. Samples taken by this programme were analysed by Australian Laboratory Services in Brisbane, and it has been found that many of their analyses are faulty, tending to be erratic and too low. This drawback has been considered during the interpretation of the geochemical data, and revised regional backgrounds have been estimated for copper, lead, zinc, arsenic, molybdenum, uranium and tin values measured during the programme. Two previously unknown areas of possible tin anomaly have been delineated: the Freeling Heights area and the Mount Neil 'Block'. A strong arsenic anomaly has also been detected in the Yagdlin Spring area within the Mount Neil 'Block'. Anomalous uranium assays have been returned from samples taken in stream channels draining Yerila Granite in the Pigeon Spring area in the Mount Babbage Inlier. These may reflect a high uranium threshold level in the Yerila Granite. Most samples which were anomalous in copper, lead or zinc appear to be related to known mineralisation or abandoned workings.
