Copper and gold exploration comprising outcrop, stream sediment and soil geochemical sampling, and the conduct of ground magnetic and IP surveys, plus RC percussion (67 vertical holes, total 6624 m) and diamond cored tail drilling (in 2 holes, total 148 m), was undertaken from late 1987 in the Bendigo Station area, 60 km east of Peterborough. Rock chip sample assaying returned values of up to 13.8 g/t Au at the Hill Grange prospect, and up to 2.6% Zn at the Mafeking prospect. Follow-up drilling of various geochemical, IP and resistivity anomalies conducted during March-April 1992 disclosed subsurface gold grades of 0.63 g/t Au at Hill Grange, as well as up to 0.21% Pb and 0.3-0.5% Zn, while anomalous gold, nickel and cobalt was encountered at Mafeking. Drilling of aeromagnetic anomaly targets elsewhere in the vicinity yielded elevated copper assay values of up to 840 ppm Cu. The diamond-bearing potential of mafic and ultramafic intrusive rocks encountered during the last phase of drilling has yet to be investigated.
