In a search for possible economic thicknesses of salt beds and crust developed on Island Lagoon, six shallow push-tube core samples were obtained from deltaic lakebed sediments in the north-eastern arm where the Island Lagoon Creek debouches. A previous brief field inspection had indicated that the thickest salt crust (5-10 mm) occurs west of Pointed Island. However, later heavy rainfall leading to inundation of the whole lake, plus Commonwealth Department of Defence restrictions on where the lakebed could be accessed, limited the survey possibilities to the aforesaid work.
