Exploration for possible roll-front sedimentary uranium deposits developed in porous and arenaceous Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous sediments of the Algebuckina Sandstone and Cadna-owie Formation, where these onlap likely uranium-providing Precambrian sedimentary and metamorphic rocks of the Peake and Denison Ranges which have similarities to the Mount Painter uraniferous basement, was carried out in an area flanking the eastern side of the Ranges. Exploratory work consisted of a literature review followed by reconnaissance examination of the surficial geology, then the acquisition (abandoned early) of a short seismic reflection profile, groundwater geochemical sampling from water bores, limited auger drill sampling of soils for chemical analysis, radiometric logging and radon emanometry, experimental geobotanical sampling, and finally the drilling of 18 rotary/percussion stratigraphic holes (total 6565 feet). From the drilling results it became apparent that the Algebuckina Sandstone primary objective was existing in an unvaried reducing environment throughout the licence area, including in holes drilled less than 1 mile from that formation's outcrop. No anomalous radioactivity was detected from the target sandstone interval. The lack of presence of a redox front in the aquifer units encountered is conjectured as due to the very high water table, and perhaps also, to the effect of Tertiary downfaulting along the eastern flank of the Peake and Denison Ranges.
