Exploration for possible stratabound copper deposits, over an area 5 miles south-east of Carrieton, consisted of rock chip sampling and field geological mapping at 1:25,000 scale of outcropping folded and brecciated River Wakefield Group sediments, plus lesser stream sediment sampling across intervening areas of shallow Recent alluvial cover. Several of the rock chip sampling traverses were run over carbonate-rich beds in the Rhynie Sandstone which contained weak secondary copper mineralisation, but no notable assay results were returned. The mapping showed that there is an absence of good regional marker beds in this structurally disturbed area, while frequent facies variations render difficult any correlation with prospective cupriferous horizons in other localities within the Flinders Ranges. More detailed 1:10,000 scale mapping carried out in the vicinity of the Oladdie mine found an isolated, possible leucocratic (?granite) intrusive within the Oladdie Diapir.
