Continuing collection and interpretation of geophysical and geological data from the southern Frome Embayment region has resolved that the areas of ground now being relinquished are probably not prospective for finding viable sedimentary-type uranium deposits. The southern portion of EL 42 contains at least three well-developed Lower Tertiary sand channels. However, the fluvial sands are all in an oxidised state, and silt and clay interbeds to them contain only weak residual uranium mineralisation, reflecting the former passage of redox cells. The western portions of ELs 42 and 45 contain a major Tertiary sand channel which follows approximately the present course of the Siccus River. Unfortunately, the depth to the prospective sand section is too great to warrant further exploration. Gravity work recently carried out in the southern part of EL 59 indicates an absence of target palaeochannels.
