Exploration conducted by CSR Ltd for possible economic stratiform base metal deposits in the western part of EL 81 addressed several targets, including Cattle Grid type disconformity - related copper mineralisation, Sweet Nell / MG14 type dolomite-hosted mineralisation, lead-zinc mineralisation in black shales, and mineralisation associated with basic dykes and faults. The Lake Macfarlane south-western region of the tenement is now being relinquished because it is considered to have a low exploration potential for copper and other base metals. Thirteen widely spaced scout rotary percussion holes were drilled in the vicinity of this salt lake, with all terminating in Pandurra Formation or younger rocks. Only two of these holes were drilled within the now relinquished area (total penetration 138 m), but no significant mineralisation was intersected.
