Exploration for possible Kanmantoo mine style economic copper mineralisation on the Dudley Peninsula at the far eastern end of Kangaroo Island has consisted of a geological survey of coastal cliff exposures of known sulphide-rich bedrock strata, and geochemical rock chip sampling of selected beds. No significant base metal enrichments were found. Isolated above background copper values around 200 ppm Cu were detected in the Sturt Tillite, the highest being associated with fracturing in the core of a small anticline. An aeromagnetic anomaly centred near Cape St Albans was separately investigated with a survey and sampling of the coastal cliffs there, which disclosed the presence of ilmenite and micaceous haematite in a fault on the western side of the cape. Again no geochemical anomalism was found. A reconnaissance stream sediment sampling programme was also undertaken inland along the Wilson River catchment within the National Park. Minor lead anomalism was seen along a broad zone that may reflect a structural feature, and more detailed stream sediment and mapping work is recommended to pinpoint the origin of the anomalies.
