Exploration for possible economic stratabound / stratiform copper deposits in an area of the central Olary Province has targeted existing prospects where recent previous work had only addressed the uranium potential. Inco's investigation of prospective calcareous and quartz-ironstone rich members of the Carpentarian basement metasedimentary sequence, in the vicinity of old workings at Plumbago South, Doughboy Well, Lookout Hill, Spring Hill and Calico East, has comprised 1:5000 scale detailed geological mapping, prospect gridding, surface geochemical sampling, and ground magnetic and IP surveys. No significant metal anomalism was found, with interpretation hindered by extensive alluvial cover, regolith contamination effects due to historical mining activity, complex lithological associations in the bedrock with a lack of continuous outcrop, and a fairly muted geophysical response. Encouragement for further work was deemed to be lacking.
