TARGET: Sedimentary uranium deposits within Lower Tertiary carbonaceous and pyritic quartzose and feldspathic sands which are all probably derived from Lower Proterozoic metasediments of the Flinders and Hutchison Groups, a suite of rocks which in the nearby Lincoln Uplands are known to contain primary uranium segregations. RESULTS: Extensive groundwater sampling showed low uranium and high sulphate, chloride and bicarbonate values, for which meaningful inter-associations could not be demonstrated. Refraction seismic and gravity surveys by SADM successfully delineated the basement structure, allowing the selection of palaeochannel test drill sites. Analyses of drill cuttings from resulting rotary mud drilling (24 holes, total 2350.7 m), and of near-surface dust samples from seismic shotholes, showed low values for uranium in most holes, with an interpreted bias to thorium rendering the area less prospective than initially envisaged.
