Gravity and targeted mobile metal ion (MMI) soil geochemical surveys were carried out north-east of Olympic Dam, adjacent to WMC's tenements, to explore for Olympic Dam style mineralisation in Middle Proterozoic basement rocks at depth below the surface. Follow-up diamond drilling (2 holes, total 1414 m) of selected geophysical and geochemical anomalies bottomed in norite and gabbro containing traces of Cu and Ni sulphides, and in partially brecciated granite with elevated base and precious metal assay values. It was concluded that there may be potential for primary mineralisation in Precambrian basement mafic rocks, and for secondary deposits along regional Cambrian - Quaternary unconformities within the cover, the nature of which presently remains untested.
