Detailed, 1:1200 scale geological mapping was carried out over the 126 square mile Tarcoola Goldfield, but it excluded the old mine workings and focussed instead on five areas which Abadon thought might have potential for discovering downfaulted extensions to the vein quartz reefs that were mined in the past. Numerous quartz veins and veinlets, plus thin alteration zones within the granite basement, were sampled and tested for their gold content, and the overlying Tarcoola Beds basal conglomeratic unit was also tested for its copper content. Only minor and erratic assay values were returned for both metals, and were judged not to be of significance. Because of the discouraging exploration results obtained overall, it was decided to surrender tenure.
