This dataset presents the observations and interpretive results of a project aiming to define and classify the complex suite of volcanic rocks found outcropping within the Gawler Ranges, as a corollary to regional geological mapping by the SA Department of Mines and Energy. Part of the work was to assess petrologically the rocks' suitability for being subjected to radiometric age dating. A summary of the lithostratigraphic breakdown and salient petrographic features of each unit is given in Progress Report 20.
