This project has been undertaken to develop fission-track dating expertise for several common minerals, which can subsequently be applied to specific geological or geochronological problems in South Australian regional geological mapping. In particular, fission-track ages of weathered and/or altered rocks, and the probable timing of various local thermal events which would have been too mild to affect the radiometric age characteristics of otherwise apparently unaltered rocks, may be determined.
