70 line km of gravity traverses were undertaken over potential shallow Triassic coal basins preserved by downwarping in the Lyndhurst area, prior to rotary mud and air drilling of gravity lows (15 holes, total 1,112.85 m, including 7.35 m of coring, plus the re-drilling of hole AV6), which failed to disclose any Mesozoic coal measures. Selected aeromagnetic anomalies were tested by ground magnetic surveying and percussion drilling (10 holes, total 341.7 m) for possible kimberlite intrusive rocks, but the 4 holes which reached their source targets intersected only dolerite, and no anomalous downhole sample geochemical values were returned. Stream sediment sampling to detect kimberlitic indicator minerals in the vicinity of other magnetic anomalies was also unsuccessful.
