As part of an ongoing search for extensions to the Cattlegrid orebody style of stratiform Cu-Fe-Mn mineralisation within its exploration licences on the Stuart Shelf, besides testing for any indications of Olympic Dam type Cu-U-Au deposits in the underlying basement, CSR Ltd conducted wide-ranging gravity, aerial magnetic and radiometric, ground magnetic, seismic, experimental Sirotem, magnetotelluric and IP, and biogeochemical and remote sensing surveys, plus photogeological and bedrock palaeotopographic mapping studies, stratigraphic drilling (148 percussion holes, total 17,757 m; 7 diamond holes, total 6066 m) and intensive geochemical sampling of drill cores and cuttings and groundwater occurrences. Despite obtaining a good understanding of the pre-Adelaidean basement relief in the region, and likely geological controls on stratabound ore genesis, the company was unable to find better than sub-economic and sparsely distributed base metal values in areas outside of known occurrences.
