1:40,000 scale geological mapping and soil geochemical sampling performed in the vicinity of the Paratoo copper mine, 300 km north-east of Adelaide, demonstrated both structural and lithological controls to known mineralisation. Stored historic diamond drill core from Kennecott's 1966 exploration programme that had been done on SML 88 was examined and resampled for assaying. Low gold assay values that were returned from drilled quartz veins and from soil samples were regarded as not being indicative of an economically viable deposit.
