Diamond exploration conducted over a large area in the vicinity of, and extending for up to 80 km north-westerly from, Port Augusta, comprised ground magnetic surveying over aeromagnetic targets, loam and stream sediment sampling, RC drilling (6 holes, total 570 m), aircore drilling (7 holes, total 160 m), and a gravity survey. Electron microprobe mineralogical data have confirmed the kimberlitic nature of indicator grains discovered earlier at Sugarloaf Dam and Nutt Knob, but do not indicate the likely presence of diamonds. These results, together with the absence of observed diamonds in any surface or drillhole sample, have downgraded the economic potential of the licence.
